Pet Export FAQ's

Where will my pet be placed in the aircraft?

Your pet will travel in the livestock hold which is pressurised,
heated and situated below the passenger cabin.
Will my pet be given food and water prior to
travelling?

Animals are not fed immediately prior to travel to avoid soiling
their air kennel. All the boxes are fitted with water containers
which are refilled during transits. International airports are well
equipped to handle all types of animals and may transfer them to
specialised animal holding units on long stopovers.
Will my pet have enough space in the air kennel?

Yes. We ensure that your pet will be able to stand, lie and turn
around. Any extra space would be very costly and not recommended
by the airlines due to injury from possible turbulence.
Will my pet be stressed from the flight?

More than a million pets fly safely world-wide every year and are
well cared for. It is the captain's responsibility to know whether
or not there are animals are on board and that certain procedures
are adhered to. All animals are checked and watered on stopovers.
At Airpets we have pets coming into quarantine from all over the
world, on a daily basis and can say that they are generally pleased
to see a friendly face and a good meal!

Will
my pet be tranquillised before they travel?

The Ministry of Agriculture and veterinary surgeons strongly discourage
tranquillising animals in the pressurised conditions of an aircraft.
Adverse drug reactions and breathing difficulties may occur due
to the change in air pressure. Airlines may refuse to carry sedated
animals as they cannot detect their state of health. After the initial
loading into the air kennels, pets soon settle down to the journey
and fall asleep. To ensure your pet arrives at their destination
healthy and happy, we do not sedate them.
What is the difference between 'Excess Baggage'
and 'Air Cargo'?

'Excess Baggage' is when your pet is checked through with you and
your luggage in the passenger terminal, but travels in the cargo
hold on the plane. 'Air Cargo' is when your pet travels without
a passenger and is checked in through a cargo terminal. The cargo
terminals have livestock holding rooms and are used to dealing with
many types of animals. Airpets are adjacent to Heathrow Airport
and being familiar with all the airlines, we are able to deliver
animals in less time before the departure than the general public.
